We Were Juniors

A look back at the glory days of "The Juniors"

Welcome to We Were Juniors

Scottish Junior Football has been recognised as a grassroots cornerstone of the football landscape in Scotland for some 136 years ( and counting) yet there is no denying the dawn of the new pyramid structure in 2013 has led to changes being initiated to the longstanding status quo .

There is a glaring sense that clubs, grounds and supporters remain largely the same as before however it’s nevertheless irrefutable that the initial departures of East Region based outfits followed by several of their North Region counterparts and crucially all 63 West Region clubs in 2020 has left a mere three league divisions across the North and East to come under the auspices of the erstwhile governing body, the SJFA, other than when their showpiece Scottish Junior Cup competition is played .

This choice by rank and file West Region Junior clubs to regard themselves differently in the big picture brought them to head for pastures new and enlist en masse in the newly founded West of Scotland League ,one of the Tier Six feeders to the more established Lowland League , and the early signs have undoubtedly raised expectations of better things to come..

And It’s maybe simplistic to suggest what comes after will endure as long as what went before but We Were Juniors intend to monitor the season by season progress of the West based clubs ,not least of all when participating in the enduring Scottish Junior Cup, while also taking a look back at players. managers and personalities whose gracing the Junior grade down through the years provided so many unforgettable memories to reminisce over.

We won’t be averse to telling it as we see it and ruffling a few feathers in the process so feel free to make suggestions on how to improve the site and we will do our best to make this your go-to place when you want to live and re-live glory days.
